FutureFit Partners

The FutureFit partnership is about collaboration; pooling, knowledge and experience from key industries partners and helping SMEs to work out which bits are important for sustainability of their business.

Key industry partners include those at the forefront of the sector, leading demonstration/pilot projects from the UK knowledge base and Public Sector clients: : BSRIA, Chartered Institute of Building, East Sussex County Council, Oxford Brookes University, National Federation of Builders, Project Five Consulting, SECBE & Constructing Excellence, BIM Fusion (The Clarkson Alliance).

Our work on an exciting range of projects and our influence with key policy-makers in National Government gives every organisation we work with an opportunity to change.

East Sussex County Council’s involvement is to help shape the local SME supply chain by promoting the Government Construction Strategy requirements through their construction frameworks and Build East Sussex (BES). BES is a connection agency of principal contractors and potential sub-contractors. This activity links through the local supply chain utilising the County’s construction frameworks. These frameworks publicise and support Build East Sussex which aims to develop and enhance the whole construction supply chain and economy across the local area.

Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)

With over 48,000 members worldwide, the CIOB is the international voice of the building professional, representing an unequalled body of knowledge concerning the management of the total building process and the built environment. BIM applies over the entire asset lifecycle and CIOB members in all their differing roles will interact with BIM environments in some way. Through our active international branch network we will be working with SECBE and Future Fit to upskill and support our members and their businesses. This will be through a combination of branch meetings, workshops and seminars, coaching and online learning.

National Federation of Builders

The National Federation of Builders provides business and policy support to builders, contractors and house builders across England and Wales. In 2012, the NFB commissioned its contractor survey, BIM: ready or not? The survey indicated a widespread awareness of BIM and a recognition of its likely importance to respondents’ businesses but a low level of understanding of BIM. In response to these findings and with the continued support of CITB, the NFB is currently undertaking a client readiness survey and developing a wide package of support for its members. The research and pilots undertaken by the NFB not only provide valuable resources for FutureFit but will increase the business support available its members in the South East.

SECBE, the regional Centre for Constructing Excellence leads transformation of the construction industry by driving improvements in quality, cost, delivery and safety across the demand and supply chain. CE has a long history in developing and promoting BIM as a set of key tools and processes for integrated collaborative working, and the implementation of BIM represents a step change in working methods for the sector.

Oxford Brookes University

Building Information Modelling is one of the main areas of expertise at the Department of Real Estate and Construction, Oxford Brookes University. The Department has integrated BIM in the teaching curriculum and is currently developing further courses focusing on BIM. Members of staff have been involved in a number of BIM related research projects and worked with companies and government agencies to promote the use of BIM across the industry. The Department also runs a ‘BIM lab’ where users can familiarise themselves with the latest BIM technology. The role of the University in the Future Fit project is to establish knowledge collaborations with SMEs and act as a platform for knowledge sharing, best practice exchange and cooperation aiming to develop innovative and efficient solutions for the adoption of BIM.
